Custom font textures sometimes appear transparent on a sign

When the texture for the default minecraft font is changed to include semi-transparency, signs will sometimes become see-through around the text instead of just being overlayed on top of the sign.

This can be replicated by going to the ascii.png file, and replacing it with 50% transparent while. ingame the sign will flicker between being see-through and solid depending on the direction it is facing.
