Rain particles look lighter than they should with graphics set to Fabulous!

The bug

When it started raining in my world I noticed that if I looked in a certain direction the rain particles would appear lighter than usual. If I look in the other direction, however, the rain appears normally.

How to reproduce

  1. Type the command: /weather rain

  2. Look towards the west at the sky to see lighter rain particles

The first image shows the abnormal rain particles (facing West), the second shows the normal rain particles (facing East), and the third shows them both side by side (facing South).

Update: Confirmed for 1.16 Pre-Releases 1 and 2, however only appears with "Fabulous!" graphics

Affects 1.16.1

I think this happens because rain particles that are behind other rain particles cause themselves and the fog behind them to not render. I could be wrong though.

Can confirm in 24w39a

Fixed in 24w44a.

@unknown, can you show a difference between 24w44a, and the version prior? That way there is record of the issue being fixed, with visual proof.
