its about the chest in minecraft not spawning its items

when i started a world i found a pillage tower and knew that there was a village nearby and when i found one i opend a chest, but it was empty. i thougt it was just pure luck and try to open an other chest. it was also empty so i started a new world and /located a village and checked the chest there too. there was nothing. i reastarted my minecraft but same thing happened in the latest snapshots. please help!
