Item Frames Can Delete Items

While breaking an item frame, I accidentally placed an item into it and that resulted in the annihilation of the item. I tried a few things to see if it was visual (re-logging etc.) but had no luck. Below I have included a link to a short video of me recreating the incident in my survival world.
