The server should log player death messages, this would enable server administrators to show this information on a website, in IRC channel, etc.
It would only require ~2 lines of code (I modded this before), but it would be great if the vanilla server does this.

In this video, Dinnerbone confirms that it's something he plans to add, though this would still be a feature request.
