I have been experiencing this bug for a very long time already, so I decided to finally report it today.
Sometimes, when you press the Chat key (mine is set to T
), or the Command key (mine is set to /
), it will open the chat window and repeat the key pressed into the chat window, when it should only open the chat window when you press the Chat key and only open the chat window and place one "/" when you press the Command key.
For example, sometimes when I press T
, it will open the chat window and input a single t
, despite only pressing the T
key once.
And when I press /
, it will open the chat window and input two /
s, despite only pressing the /
key once.
This bug only happens on Linux, and has been happening consistently on every distribution of Linux I have installed on every machine I have installed it on. It does not happen at all on Windows or macOS, in my experience.

I have tested different keyboards, same thing happens. I have also tested it on Java 8, and it still happens.
Could you give it also a quick test in 1.16 Release Candidate 1? Might have been magically fixed during development of 1.16.

Please ensure that this is not an issue with the keyboard you are using, and also that it is not a software issue on your end. Please also check if using Java 8 makes any difference, as it is the only version currently supported.
