untamed horses wont despawn

i have a world, where i spawned a ton of horses, and even if i go reeeeealy far away, they wont despawn! its causing massive lag, so please help!

how to reproduce: spawn a toooon of horses, go away, 

expected results: some horses despawn

result: none of the horses despawn.
