Using a dispenser chicken killer to farm chickens, the lava is killing the chickens and not dropping anything. There is no sound of items burning. I tried in creative to kill them with lava and remove the lava instantly, so it would be gone before they die, and the items still disappeared.

yeah it's in our survival server and we tested in singleplayer creative, didn't work either way. interestingly enough, if you put a hopper minecart, it would pick up some items for like a frame and then the items would disappear even if lava wasn't there. We get loot from cows and stuff so yeah mobloot is on
just tried it again, guess it's not really a bug, but you basically have to remove the lava the exact moment it's put out. idk if they changed how items dropped from mobs but ik this design worked in other versions so it is annoying that it's harder to kill chickens with lava. it should be noted that that should be changed
Lava now moves mobs around, plus items technically float up in it (though everything but netherite just gets destroyed anyway), would this explain the behaviour?
I've done testing and discovered the issue. It would seem that this isn't a bug, but rather a bug fix. Looking at lava damage, it's 4 per 0.5 seconds. Chickens have 4 health. So they should die instantly to lava. Prior to 1.14, if a chicken was a half block below the lava, as in the auto chicken farms, they would incorrectly take 1 damage per 0.5 seconds instead of 4. Thus, they would only get set on fire, then die from fire damage. So this change was actually a bug fix rather than a bug itself. So yes, it breaks the auto chicken farms, but they technically shouldn't have been possible to begin with.
Are you sure they dropped something in the first place? (gamerule "doMobLoot")
