Redstone block powering a piston through air

When powering a piston with a redstone output by the block it extends, and it stays out while unpowered.

I then remove the piston, but when I place it again in the same spot the piston will stil activate in any direction.

What I expected to happen was...:
The piston would not be extended when replaced with a new one.

What actually happened was...:
It extends even if it's not touching any block (REF: 2020-07-02_00.34.36.png)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place down a piston (facing up) with a block of redstone on top.
2. add a block on either side of the piston and put redstone dust on top.
3. The piston will extend. Remove the block with the redstone dust.
4. Remove the piston and place a new one in the same spot. No matter which direction you put it, it will extend.

This does not power other redstone components, like lamps.
