Yesterday I created a portal, teleported into the Nether for the first time since the update, tried to leave the Nether and was unable to teleport - stuck in the purple teleporting phase. On reloading, Minecraft took me back in time to when I hadn't started building the portal.
Today I rebuilt the portal, teleported to the Nether, walked forwards into the Nether and noticed there is no portal behind me. I am now stuck in The Nether.
What to do...?

Thanks, I have renamed the DIM-1 folder and restarted Minecraft, but this hasn't brought back the portal.
No, I was asking if you before 1.16 update manually deleted the DIM-1 folder to regenerate the nether, those were not instructions to do that 🙂

How exactly did you close the game while you were stuck in the teleporting phase?
That was a few days ago, but as far as I can remember I closed the game in the normal way - save and quit.
(edit) - remember that the portal that has now disappeared is the one that I rebuilt after the first bug.
Right, I've managed to cheat and give myself some obsidian to make yet another portal. Teleported back home. Went back in to the Nether, and end up about 16 blocks away from the new portal (with no other portals). this may have been where my original portal was that disappeared. The latest portal is working OK.

While the lag occurs, please run
/debug start, wait a while and then run/debug stopin order to create a debug profile.
