My friend and I were playing on our realm, I had just made a trident farm and gave him a trident. Then, it became stormy, and we decided to use the trident (Enchantments: Loyalty, Channeling, Mending, Unbreaking) to get a charged Creeper, and its head. After 3 attempts, a Zombie killed my friend, directly after he threw his trident. It disappeared, and a Zombie didn't pick it up.
Theory: Since the Trident has Channeling, and he threw it as he died. he didn't have time to pick it up, so the lightning destroyed the Trident
Steps to Reproduce:
Get any Trident
Give it Channeling and Loyalty and set the weather to "thunder"
have any mob attack you, preferably zombie. (For more accurate testing)
wait until 2 hearts, get close to the mob (not too close) and throw the Trident (you should die)
Trident Disappears.
What I expected:
I expected my friend to die, just not to lose the trident

As far as I'm aware, when a player dies, a trident owned by that player immediately drops. If it currently is above lava, it would drop into the lava. Was there any lava or fire nearby?
There wasn't. But try to imagine the following...
Your being followed by a horde of zombies, so you attack them with the first weapon in your hand out of panic. You are on 2 hearts and you throw your trident, which has channeling, during a thunderstorm. It hits the zombie attacking you, and a lighting strikes where the trident was thrown. It kills both you and the zombie.
So, because the trident was thrown and was hit by lightning, I think it may have disappeared, keep in mind the trident also had loyalty, but my friend died as soon as the trident hit the zombie. Therefore, it didn't return... Is the trident disappearing intended?
Did he drop it on the ground or did he throw it when he died?
