Hi there!

I don't think it has to do with limited crafting in this case.

You can't use a blast furnace to cook food:

Blast furnaces are used to smelt down ores like iron or gold ore.
Smokers are used to cook food.
Furnaces can be used for everything smeltable (but slower than blast furnaces and smokers)
