Most apparent with hoglins, but likely affects all mobs.
To reproduce make a lead attached to the mob and then attached to a fence, then despawn the mob. This is easily done with hoglins by traveling a distance away.
The lead will show wrapped around the fence and if right clicked, it will be removed from the fence but does not drop as an item.
This is likely due to the lead being meant to drop near the entity it was attached to but without the entity, the item fails to spawn.

yes
I tested it as well in a fresh unmodded client for this, and flew 128 blocks vertical to despawn, so the chunk was still loaded
[media]This will only apply to hoglins and zoglins as they are the only mobs that can be leashed and can despawn.
I will try to test it with a chicken from a chicken jockey but I am unsure how to spawn one which is the same as a natural spawn
they should be despawnable and leadable
I tested it with ocelots and came to the same bug.
Ocelots also despawn even if fed. if bred their offspring despawns as well 😞
