I tested it with ocelots and came to the same bug.
Ocelots also despawn even if fed. if bred their offspring despawns as well 😞
I will try to test it with a chicken from a chicken jockey but I am unsure how to spawn one which is the same as a natural spawn

I tested it as well in a fresh unmodded client for this, and flew 128 blocks vertical to despawn, so the chunk was still loaded
[media]@Anthony I dont believe it is related, no, as the chunk stays loaded in testing.
I will add I also tried the seed from MC-192361 with the Overworld preset and it did generate the stronghold at those coordinates.
I explored their seed, checking various other locations a stronghold should be and could not find another one.
I will update the title to reflect that they "mostly do not generate"
I tried: throwing eye, using /locate, using a web based stronghold finder, and loading a new world with the same seed in 1.15.2 and 1.16.1 to compare.

This is occurring in 1.19.3 as well.
I feel it may be pseudo-intentional since wandering traders should spawn in deep dark biomes, and I believe they share the same spawning conditions?
