Flying through the end portal with an elytra does some weird things

I was flying around the end while wearing an elytra in survival mode, and decided to fly through the end portal. Upon teleporting back to the Overworld, I was stick in this "flying" mode while on the ground. I could move around, jump, use blocks, open inventories and such, however anytime i landed back on the ground, i took damage as if i was still using the elytra. Sneaking seems to remove this effect.
