striders stop in lava pillars despite several clicks on a fungus on a stick

What I expected to happen was...:
the strider to either dismount me, or continue through

What actually happened was...:
the strider froze and wouldnt let me out of the lava pillar

Steps to Reproduce:
1. ride a strider
2. repeatedly click the fungus on a stick
3. run into a lava pillar
