[MC-198151] My friend can't join the server

He saw this message "Internal Exception io.netty.handler.codec.decoderexception: Java.io.10exception packet 0/26 (pn) was larger than i expected, found 169 bytes extra whilist reading packet 26"

They may check their connection or changing their DNS

I get this issue as well when trying trying to connect from Windows 10 clients with Java Edition 1.16.2, no mods, vanilla server/client.

it differs, but it is all kinds of bad packet, wrong number of bytes received, etc.

Is the server hosted using the software from minecraft.net, or third party software?
