Visual "wave" going down the screen

When playing seemingly any version, and any world, I get a visual glitch. It appears at the top of the screen, and proceeds to the bottom, like a wave. Its exact appearance seems like just a displacement of pixels, like a slightly errored render, hard to describe. After 10 minutes and 2 different video capture softwares, I found that it does not show up on video, or in screenshots, at all. It is very eye straining, and makes the game unplayable.
