Could you explain why the username "Adamwasnothere2" does not show up as a paid account username?

There is no reason it shouldn't be. I've been using this account for almost 3 year now I believe?

Apologies, looks like it wasn't checking the name properly - it's all good.

You may need to fully reinstall all the locally installed files that Minecraft puts into place.

To do so, press your Windows+R keys, type %AppData% into the dialog, and press Enter. In the window that appears, open the .minecraft directory, and delete everything in the folder except for the saves directory.

Next, go to your Control Panel in Windows, and click on Uninstall a Program (may also be called "Programs and Features"). Then, right click on the Minecraft entry and select Uninstall. Afterwards, restart your PC, then download and run the Installer from https://minecraft.net/en-us/download
