Plugged piston that stays on without a power source

• I was trying to get the piston to stay on with a lever so I could turn it off later.

•   What ended up happening was that when I turned off the piston power supply, it stayed on.

    Put a piston, preferably floating for greater appreciation.

then place a block of any material (except redstone) on top of the piston leaving a block of space between.

 in that space place a drop of redstone.

 in the upper block put a lever.

 press the lever and watch the redstone drop disappear but the piston continues to function even if the lever is off.
