If a brewing stand has more than one bottle of dragons breath in it's inventory when brewing, it spits out a empty bottle onto the ground once complete.
If a brewing stand has only one dragons breath bottle in it's inventory when brewing, the bottle gets destroyed.
First noticed this in vers 1.16.2 but checked in 1.16.3

Which way is it meant to work because receiving a empty bottle makes using auto brewing so much harder.
You have to input on the sides for bottles and fuel.
The top for ingredients and take out on the bottom.
A bottle popping out could go into any hopper..
The other post you point to is reporting receiving no bottle as a bug.
I'm ok with not receiving any bottles back.
Yeah it happened to me a couple of times
