Previously mobs were spawning on the trapdoors while these were closed and in top position. In 1.16.3 that got broken
Spawn still works as expected for slabs in top position. Reproduced on servers and in singleplayer (tested in flat world )

Trapdoors and slabs are on the same level here, but spawning works only on slabs. Previously it worked on trapdoors too
[media][media]In 1.16.1 it worked for sure (at least on iron trapdoors, I've created passive spawn farm using them). And don't remember any troubles in 1.16.2

Please reopen this bug report as the spawning is still broken since the incorrect 'fixing' of this bug report MC-181233
Hostile mobs no longer spawn on top of top trapdoors. Mobs would always spawn on top before this was broken by mistake. Here you can see them spawning on top of a similar property block, piston heads.

If you have a good and sensible indication or reason that the resolution of MC-181233 was "incorrect", feel free to do so, and include that in your bug report. However, to me it seems very much intentional that mobs no longer spawn on closed trap doors, so I'd expect that bug report to be resolved as either WAI or Invalid (due to being a feature request).
I don't believe closed trapdoors were ever valid spawning spaces in the unmodified game?
