I was trying to mine obsidian with lava underneath, an when I tried to place water on redstone ore, I nearly fell in the lava. I am going to try to send a photo, but it might take a little bit.

This can be easily replicated, simply go into survival mode and try to place water on an ore block, preferrably redstone.
If you cant get it to work, then i dont know how it happened. It wasn't lag, it didn't get placed.
