Tinted Glass generally behaves like a solid block, and as such if you are in it, you can't see the outside and suffocate, unlike regular glass.

Get yourself trapped in tinted glass e.g. with the fill command or with a piston

I've split this ticket up again, the issue for grass turning into dirt is now MC-203696

I think it is because it does not let the light through (unlike normal glass) and the grass without light does not survive (in reality).
