Floating decorations on slabs

When placing decorations such as flower pots, lanterns, torches and etc on a slab within the lower half part of a block, the decorations placed on said slab float as if the upper part of the slab that’s just air is a full block, this is very inconvenient for us builders and in general doesn’t make sense, I don’t know if this is a bug or if this is just the way minecraft Java edition works, I don’t think this happens on bedrock edition, either way I would like to see this issue resolved so that builders such as myself never have to experience something like this ever again.
