I spawned in a swamp and suddenly a slime appeared ahead of me. I'm not sure if its a bug, but I just wanted to see.

This is not a bug.
12w40a Oct. 12, 2012: Slimes now spawn in Swamp biomes at low light level.
Pre-1.4 (may still apply to non-swamp biomes): Slimes are found only in the lowest 40 layers of the Overworld, and only in certain areas
That is not a bug, but a new feature of MC 1.4. Please check the wiki for information regarding the new features before posting here.
