Failed to Log in, Authentication servers down?

Recently purchased Minecraft Java from the official website. I have logged in with an existing Xbox account. 12 hours ago I attempted to add Mineplex and other multiplayer servers to play with my friends. When I tried to connect, an error message saying the authentication servers were down appeared. Forums and other people suggested just waiting an hour or so but it has now been 12 hours and I can still not play online.
