The riding position of the llama is offset, which causes unexpected behavior such as; suffocating in walls, appearing to sit on/in the llama's neck, or appearing to sit on the edge of the llama.
Steps to Reproduce:
Spawn a tamed llama:
/summon llama ~ ~ ~ {Tame:1b}
Ride it
Enable hitboxes using F3 +B
Allow the llama to move around freely
Expected & Observed Results:
❌ - The player will rotate around on top of the llama at an offset, and appear in weird positions/rotations. If the player riding the llama is next to a wall, they may suffocate as their hitbox is put inside blocks.
✔ - The player (or general entity) would ride in the relative middle of the top of the llama's hitbox.

This issue used to specifically be about the llama causing suffocation damage when riding next to a wall, but the issue was generified in favor of describing the issue in a more broad way, at the source of the issue.

This is not the same issue. It has nothing to do with height. The ceiling is 8 blocks high. This is the llama turning and clipping its tail into the wall, and the riders head also goes into that wall and suffocates.
In that case, please could you provide some screenshots or videos of this issue occurring whilst the F3 Debug screen is enabled. This would help myself, along with others, determine what the problem is, as at this moment in time, it is quite difficult to understand the problem, so any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Screenshot made. All I did here was mount a llama. The llama walked in the corner on its own, turned, and damage happening.
I added an image "Safety Ring..." Notice how there is a recess around the cave wall three blocks above the ground. This is necessary to mount a llama indoors (underground) to access the inventory safely.
I think the best resolution would be to move the player forward slightly on the llama.
I'd like to request ownership of this issue, as it has not been maintained since 1.17, and the issue could be described better.
This is more of an issue with the player's riding position on a llama being offset, rather than exclusively the behavior of the llama suffocating you. I'd like to update the issue to reflect that.
