If you put ordinary glass and colored glass and throw a mist potion on them, then the cloud will only be visible in ordinary glass, so it will be if you hold colored glass in your hand.

This appears to be a duplicate of MC-188529, which was later marked as, "Won't Fix". The developers have decided not to fix this issue. Just to inform you, you are experiencing this because your graphics settings are set to either, "Fast" or "Fancy". To resolve this, simply turn them to "Fabulous!".
