Minecraft has only been loading in version 1.6.93

I've uninstalled Minecraft multiple times, along with everything related to it, and reinstalled it back. Seems like it would work, right? No, it keeps going back to 1.6.93.
I tried logging into that version because maybe I could switch versions through that, but it says that my account doesn't exist. Maybe because my account wasn't around back when the version released? Who knows anymore.
There's not anything on my laptop that could be messing with Minecraft either since I've run several virus checks and my laptop is able to handle Minecraft since it has worked well before.
I'm just trying to get the newest version of Minecraft to play with my friends, so it'd be cool if I could get some help here.
(btw I just put a random version with no correlation since 1.6.93 wasn't up there.)
