When I press play on the Minecraft launcher it brings up the Mojang icon with the loading bar underneath but at a certain point of the loading bar it freezes and no matter how long you wait it will never complete and in order just to exit the game I have to restart my whole computer.

As stated above, this report is invalid as your game was outdated when experiencing this issue. In this report, you mentioned that you were playing on 1.14.4 and the bug tracker only handles reports that can be reproduced in the latest snapshot/release of the game. If the problem persists without the use of an outdated game version, feel free to create a new report. Outdated game versions such as 1.14.4 are not supported. The only versions currently supported are the latest release (1.16.5) or snapshot (21w05b).
