WAY too many hostile mob spawns in snapshots

I am playing in survival on a server with my friends in normal difficulty. We have made our way down below y=0 and are exploring the new caves. It seems that there are WAY too many spawns, One can hardly walk from one side of the cave to the other without being attacked by 7 or 8 mobs. Skeletons, Zombies, Creepers, Witches, and Spiders just bombard you from all sides. At one point, I was in a small cut out in a cave that was lit up in order to take a screenshot of the new ores. All of a sudden, I was attacked by TWO creepers, one to end me, and one to destroy most of my items. Two of my friends on that server play Minecraft Java a lot, and they said this is worse than normal.

To replicate:

Start a new world in snapshot 21w08b and set it to Normal.

Go down below y=0, find a large cave, and switch to Survival.

Observe.

Can't seem to reproduce, instead I get the opposite. If you are in a very large cave system, there are a lot more spawning spaces, which mean a lot more mobs spawn.

I have noticed in general fewer mob spawns in a given area since 06a.

@jakesamuels Did you do it on a server? I think that may be the issue.

It was singleplayer. I still play in 05b survival and often get overwhelmed by mobs, but I noticed there were considerably fewer in the new snapshots, I'm guessing because there are twice as many mob spawning spaces available, leading to half as many spawns in a particular area.

Can you please provide a screenshot (preferably with your debug screen (F3) open)? This will help to see what your render distance is, etc.

Also, if you take away all possible spawning spaces, they will be forced to spawn in a small area. On my survival world, I found about the same amount of mobs that you are describing in a single amethyst geode, which is much smaller than the new caves. It also depends on the time of day, as there will be fewer mob spawning spaces available during the day, so they will be forced to spawn in the caves.

Please provide some screenshots or videos of this issue occurring whilst the F3 debug screen is enabled.
