Dramatical performance decrease ever since 21w10a.

Ever since the OpenGL version updated to 3.2, I have been getting a dramatical performance decrease on my machine. About 1/3rd of my previous FPS performance. I haven't set any hacky/weird settings through either my system, game or drivers that I can recall.

I suspect this is an issue related to my graphics card (GTX 1070) or its driver, as the 21w10a screenshot shows OpenGL running version 3.2 rather than 4.6 as previous versions show. This does not seem to happen with anyone else I have seen online. I suspect my GPU is somehow forcing or emulating OpenGL 3.2 which might be why the game is performing worse.

Personally cannot reproduce, my game seems to be running almost as smooth as before 21w06a. (21w06a-8b were almost unplayably laggy) But I am sure that this is an issue that is heavily dependent on Environment.

RedCarlos

I can reproduce this in my game. My game was running pretty smoothly before 21w10a, but with the new OpenGL version, my fps dropped at about the 3rd of what I had in 1.16.5, and about half of what I had in the previous 1.17 snapshots.

In the latest 21w10a, my FPS dropped on average to below 30 while moving, and when stationary it hovers between 45-59 FPS. Not sure if its my graphic card, I'm on a late 2012 iMac with GeForce GT 680.

I know this isn't an intended feature on 1.17 snapshots yet (this is why I didn't create a ticket) but if you load an 1.16.5 world in 21w10a (using NBT editors), the performance when loading chunks (at least in my world) is like 1-2 fps...

I can confirm that as well, Numeritos, when I was trying the exact same thing. But I don't think it's that related to this.

BlackScout

Does it make sense for the debug screen to show OGL 3.2 now instead of OGL 4.6 like before?

László Rasmussen

I am not sure. It seems to be a hit or miss thing that only  seems somewhat random from system to system.

It has been decided that these types of performance issues will be linked to this report: MC-219639.

Please follow the instructions on that ticket to document your performance decrease so that it will be standard with others who experience similar problems.
