Iron Ore spawns infrequently, and sometimes doesn't spawn like it's supposed to.

Iron Ore is nearly impossible to find. Coal, Copper and even Lapis spawn more frequently than how iron spawns. It should spawn as frequently has copper and coal, so you don't have to die just looking for Iron! So, please fix!

I've had this issue as well in 21w11a. Whilst playing a couple times in survival I found gold, redstone, and lapis before finding a single piece of iron ore. I did find some iron eventually, but in such small quantities that it was basically useless. There seemed to be more iron available in desert temples then actually in the ground.

Iron Ore generation was tweaked in 21w10a see here

Right, I know that it was tweaked, but it should still be generating in caves and such. The image doesn't say anything about less air exposure or anything like that, so it doesn't explain why iron is almost impossible to find, especially in caves. Not to mention the fact that iron and copper appear to have almost the exact same frequency, and yet when actually playing in survival, copper is way more common than iron. I had over two stacks of copper ore before I found a single piece of iron ore.

This report explains the issue a bit better: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-220326

I think maybe what we're failing to take into consideration is the apparently large frequency of iron that's supposed to show up in the new mountain biomes. We're just unable to test that since the new mountain biomes aren't in Java edition yet. If the frequency there actually evens out the low frequency in the ground, it would actually be a good way to fix progression to make leather a must early game since the powdered snow is combatted by leather armor. We may just have to wait and see.

Though, I do agree that the image seems to not be representative of iron ore generation. I agree that when I mine where iron should be most abundant, I find more copper and coal even though the image shows that iron should be more abundant than those resources.

If you think this is an actual issue, please provide some ore generation data that shows that iron generates too infrequently, and/or provide a code analysis showing that this is a bug.

Otherwise, if you want to leave feedback about the current ore generation, please do so on https://feedback.minecraft.net or Twitter (e.g. https://twitter.com/henrikkniberg/status/1374369570773868547)

I don't understand how this was even considered. Iron or has always been harder to find than it should have been. Why on earth was it DOWNgraded when it should have been UPgraded?

I tried to report this on the feedback site, as indicated by the mod violine1101. However, that requires a Microsoft Live account, and there's no way to change the logon information so I can use the correct account. I logged in with my son's account here in FireFox years ago, and it's not possible to change to MY account from the interface (or any other way I can find). So, here it is.

The change made in 21w10a needs to be reverted. Otherwise, the game is unplayable early on. The concept that this makes leather more valuable early on is laughable. Leather is even harder to come by. If the idea is to make iron armor harder to get is desired, then hit THAT target by changing the villager armorsmith's who practically give away iron armor pieces. See https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360075787692-Armorsmith-Chainmail-vs-Iron-.

IF this change is kept in the release, it will force me to stop playing Minecraft entirely. I love this game, so I would hate to have that happen. But without buckets and iron tools, the early game is unplayable. This MUST be fixed.
