The Minecraft application refuses to open, and the only known solution is to restart the computer and reinstall the game (because the system says Minecraft is already open). This is a new MacBook, running macOS 11. The app simply won't open.

Yes, this issue does seem very related. I haven't checked anything other than the Force Quit menu to see if the game is secretly still open though (nothing there). Thanks
