Poof particles (The death smoke particles) show when particles is minimal.
Steps to Reproduce:
Set particles option to minimal
Spawn a mob using a spawn egg
Kill the mob
Watch as smoke appears

Can confirm for 1.16.5. I don’t think that these particles are necessary, so they probably shouldn’t appear on minimal.
