dropping a stack of items is always set to both ctrls instead of changing with the sprint key

The Bug:

The "Drop Stack" function cannot be rebound.

When pressing the "q" key by default, you will drop the item held in your hand. If you were to press both the CTRL and the "q" keys at the same time, you will drop a full stack of items. This is known as the "Drop Stack" function. To perform this action, you must always press the CTRL key along with the "Drop Selected Item" key. The problem here is that you cannot change how you always have to press the "CTRL" key to execute this function in this scenario.

Steps to Reproduce:

  • Obtain a stack of items.

  • Press the CTRL key along with the "Drop Selected Item" key.
✔ → Notice how the "Drop Stack" function is executed and you drop a full stack of items.

  • Navigate to your controls settings and attempt to assign this function to another key.
❌ → Notice how you are able to change the key that the "Drop Selected Item" function is assigned to, but there is no option for changing how you always have to press the "CTRL" key to execute the "Drop Stack" function.

Expected Behavior:

The expected behavior would be that the "Drop Stack" function can be rebound. In other words, you wouldn't always have to use the "CTRL" key to execute this function.

Original Description

The control keys always is the drop a stack of items key even if sprint toggle is set to another key.  I think the intended functionality should be the sprint key is what denotes dropping a stack, but I do not know if this is a bug or not.

My personal opinion is that dropping a stack should be linked to the sprint keybind, as that is what it is on default.

I can confirm this. Also affects 1.17.1.

This report appears to be missing some information so I've rewritten it to correctly reflect what the problem is here.

Can confirm in 21w37a

It'd be even more preferable if dropping stacks could be rebound separately from the sprint key as well.

Hi. We'll be resolving this as a duplicate of MC-91315 since it's the same core problem. 🙂
