I had a village that was perfectly safe (safe entrance & well lit, villagers survived untouched for dozens of hours of gameplay). However, out of nowhere the 16 villagers and 1 iron golem vanished completely. The weird thing is that all of their beds are marked as occupied even though it's daytime, and replacing the bed reveals no villager, but fixes the occupied message.
