When I was playing on an Aternos hosted 1.17 Survival server, I died via lava pit. Upon spawning, the fire effects were still applied to my character model and screen. I could not set anything on fire, but entering water would cause the "Put out" sound to play continuously. This stayed until I left and rejoined the server.
