I have never seen this before and don't know how to replicate it.
It might be a bug or just my computer.
Luckily, I had Iron armour so I didn't need to worry.
This might be a problem for somebody who just started a new world.

This is normal. It probably spawned at night or in a nearby cave and wandered off into the lake. Entities that are in water don't burn.
