both images attached occurred within the span of mere seconds. First I loaded into the game and the potion effects list was across the side of the pause menu. It did however disappear and in place I had a giant, flickering sun/moon. It was a consistent fast flicker and reloading my world doesn't do anything, nor does shutting down and restarting the game. The sun/moon stays to the left side of the screen and can always be seen when turned to look at.
