Built this kelp farm
Is this simply not stopping the redstone ticks before saving the blocks when logging out or traveling outside active region?
logging out and logging back in often results in an underwater flying machine glitching and I find all the honey/glass/trapdoors/observers all lined up and wind up having to rebuild half of it to get it running again.
Update 2: I've found that the honey block in the flying machine is pulling away the observer that is used as part of the starting mechanism.
Update 3: I tried swapping out the honey bocks for slime in hopes the slime wouldn't pull the start trigger observer away from the start mechanism. Nope. Still finding it get pulled away. Also found glitching a traveling flying machine can happen when killing a drowned next to it.
It's looking like you can get this to function during a single session but its a roll of the dice whether you can leave and return to find it unbroken.

@unknown
the point of this issue is that the machine working properly will break down after logging out and logging back
you must make some mistake on the start machine. Check if you place it one block lower than what the video shows. If so, reproduce this bug with correct machine and edit your description and screenshot
Does MC-89146 describe your issue?
@ampolive , sorry for my mistake. It also breaks down without water
maybe it's just a duplicate of MC-89146
All of this said, is there a workaround cuz this blows? The referenced possible underlying bug has been around for 6 years! and it's a normal level bug.
@Marj J Nohr The workaround I see in YouTube tutorials is to make an off switch for your farms, and turn them off when you log out, leave the area, or otherwise unload the chunks.
edit: Even if this bug is fixed, it would still be a good idea to make off switches for anything involving flying machines. This is because you might unload part of the flying machine if you walk away from the farm, causing part of the flying machine to keep going while the rest gets left behind.
Yeah that sounds good although I've yet to see this flying machine reliably stop. The mechanism depicted gets it started but when when it returns it sometimes stops but usually just turns around or just stops for a few seconds.
I saw this flying machine from ilmango that seems to have a better on/off mechanism but most likely still suffers from the block misplacement bug when logging out -> in. And remembering to turn it off before leaving the property seems unrealistic (we are playing a game after all 🙂

Are you guys from Mojang or just super helpful community members?
@Avoma - So you built the kelp farm I referenced? I reliably reproduced the problem and it does seem to be related to MC-89146 which is not resolved.
Honey/slime blocks pulling other blocks with them is a feature (it's the reason those blocks exist). If you don't want them to pull an observer with them, you need to prevent them from touching the observer in the first place.
