The title's the best way I can summarize it in one sentence, but to explain more on what I think happened here:
This happened on a border between old and new chunks, and the water area next to this ravine is very deep which I believe is due to the bottom of the ravine influencing the blending, it does not seem have any features you'd find in a River biome like Clay patches, if someone else can come up with a better way on how this happened that'd be nice!
So I tried to replicate this using another seed (-6948714410367329106) and loaded it in 1.17, then I removed the chunks west of a particular ravine (at -363 72 -26).
Then I made a back-up of this and loaded it in 1.18 Pre-release 1 and it's mostly the same result, except the bottom half of the water blocks do update (start flowing out)
The file attached is this world I used to replicate (It's still in the 1.17 format but already has chunks west of the ravine deleted so you can experiment how Blending affects it!)

I don't think I made a back up of this world before loading it, I COULD probably try to make a version of it and erase some of the chunks!
Can't get MCA Selector to work on the world properly and I also can't upload the "region" file because of the 10.00 MB limit
I'll just try to find another world that has a Ravine at the border, but locate it through MCA Selector instead of in-game
Alright I've made another 1.17 world with a ravine going into new chunks and deleted the chunks west of the ravine! (Which seems to gains some results when upgraded)
You should see it in Attachments!

Thanks!
The case on the screenshots, where the overhanging part of the ravine is ignored should get a little nicer (probably in 1.18-pre5).
But generally it is intended that ravines pull down the terrain. In the world download it also forms a smooth opening into the ravine already.
That there is a water wall is not ideal, but starting with 1.18-pre3 it should at least update the water to flow.
Would it be possible to provide a download of the world before upgrading and locations of your screenshots so we can take a look and see if we can improve it?
