Caused by the fix of MC-206660
Unlike most situations in which pointed dripstone maintains the same shape it originally had when falling, if the stalactite is placed directly over a block, the bottom dripstone is broken too early and causes the rest of the stalactite to reshape with a new tip, which is both inconsistent and unnatural looking.

Hi, this issue has been fixed in 22w05a.
I could indeed reproduce this behavior in 1.18.1, however, wasn't able to in 22w03a, as a result of MC-248182. I've just tested this now in 22w05a, and pointed dripstone appears to fall normally and maintain its shape whilst falling directly under a block. Since this can no longer be reproduced as of 22w05a, it has been fixed in this version. 🙂
