The Trial version of Minecraft: Java is being very glitchy. I am using windows 7 and my system meets all the minimum system requirements, yet it is still terrible and almost impossible game play. The boxes at the bottom that should appear around the items that I collect are not appearing around the items. I believe I'm also supposed to have a health and hunger bar that don't show up at all. Also there are these weird unlock and locked icons on the left hand side of the screen. I have provided a screenshot that shows these issues and others in the background of the game menu screen.
