Ice spikes can generate excessively long when forming in locations with lots of air below them.

Here are some examples:

Version: 1.19.3

Seed: 97724
Coordinates: /execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s -619.46 107.00 -306.89 167.25 -51.60

Version: 1.19.3

Seed: -682326418907860121
Coordinates: /execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s 3584.96 73.00 -1471.54 -144.00 47.25

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Generate a world with any of the seeds provided above and teleport to the given coordinates.

  2. Look closely at the generation of the ice spike.

  3. Take note as to whether or not ice spikes can generate excessively long when forming in locations with lots of air below them.

Observed Behavior:

Ice spikes can generate excessively long.

Expected Behavior:

Ice spikes would not be able to generate excessively long.
