I did some testing with this, and it seems the recovery compass will point the same way in your hand in the hotbar when pointing to your deathpoint. However if you haven't died yet or you're not in the same dimension, then the pointers don't match. The video is in a newly generated world where I haven't died, and the pointers don't match.
I can confirm with other pictures as well, this seems like the same sort of problem as 1.11 worlds loading surface blocks instead of leaves. I updated this world from 1.17.1 to Pre-release 1.
I looked through a couple of crash logs on this report, plus one I got from my own world generation attempt warranting a crash, and from looking through the report, it seems like it's a bug from trying to generate villages in certain positions causing a null return value.
I tried it on 1.17.2 on the same PC that I found the bug on.
Both the seeds still spawn you underwater.
There is an improvement though, the player doesn't start drowning until they are in the world, not while they're loading in. The bug still kinda exists but you get out of the water before you drown.
Can confirm for 1.21.4
This is the main bug I wanted fixed. It's such a small issue but bedrock doesn't have it.
Seems to be resolved since 1.19.40 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/minecraft/creator/documents/customblockoversized

bump
Can confirm in 1.18.1 (I only checked villagers and players with and without armour, but I'm sure it works with the other mobs too).

same, with a fresh install of windows 10
it worked once. i closed the launcher completely and had to login again, then it didn't work anymore.
im sure it wasnt a hole. I built up to the obsidian towers and something hit me off. My little brother had the same problem back in 2016
There's a screenshot now
I will try because it hits at random times in the end but mainly when I'm building up or when I just enter the end.
