Minecraft fails to start if no sound output device exists.

The game takes a long time to start (if it starts at all) if there is no sounds output device. The game will also completely lock up if the sounds output device is removed while the game is running. The game works fine if the audio device is there

I've had the exact same issue and I have a workaround, but it's not great.
Initially I thought it was Java 17s fault and maybe it has to do with it, but it's mostly Pipewire's fault.

So the easy solution here is to switch to Pulseaudio for now and possibly make a bug report for pipewire-pulse, because it may be a problem on their end. If they get that working Mojang doesn't have to do any work and other versions work.

Honestly you may be correct as I have similar issues with Discord, if there is no audio output the application can not use audio at all until restarted.

Are you still able to reproduce this issue?
