In 1.6.2 (and as low as the snapshots) me and my friends get major lag. I use to get 60-70 frames with Optifine on Fancy graphics, clouds on, and normal render distance.
Now in 1.6+, I get 7-30 frames with Optifine on Fast graphics, clouds off, and normal render distance.
This is literally making 1.6.1 unplayable for us. On all the other bug reports about major lag it says resolved. Were still having a major lag problem.

It's different for every computer, but for Windows I believe you go to Control Panel>Hardware, open up the device manager, and then install the preferred graphics card and disable the integrated one. There's also something about it I found here after a quick Google search.
That's why the original is resolved, by the way, it was determined to be the computer, not Minecraft.

Is that good or bad? How do I change it to the preferred one?

Sorry, I really don't know. I never encountered this issue personally and I don't know a thing about my graphics card.
It's resolved only if you follow the steps to resolve it.
Very likely duplicate of MC-15072, you have to make your computer learn to use your correct graphics card instead of your integrated one.
