Client Server orb desync problem

We recently set up a server with 4 players and created a simple (regular) spider spawner trap. The opening is on a corner and has an iron door on either side of the corner with a fence post in the corner. When killing spiders, the player stands in front of either open door where water pushes the spiders. The orbs swirl out the door and around the player but are not absorbed. If the player jumps into the water to pick up the string/spider eyes, the orbs are then absorbed. Server errors were reported that may, or may not, be related.

I did search and read the related issue, but ours does not include the use of half slabs and is in a new version of the game. Since this issue is marked as resolved, I assume the bug will be left as is?

Half-slabs are just one example of how the desync can happen, there are other ways too. MC-460 is not necessarily a different bug if it has not yet been confirmed in 1.6.2. MC-460 is not resolved, so it could still be fixed.
